Feng
Shui Approaches to New Year's Resolutions
ROCKAWAY,
NJ - (December 15, 2004) Has the holiday season left you
feeling over saturated with food and social activities?
Like millions of people, you may be looking to the New Year
as an opportunity for a fresh start and new routines.
As you prepare your New Year’s resolutions, you should
consider incorporating the principles of Feng Shui.
“Environment
has a tremendous influence on well-being and ability to pursue
goals. You will
increase your chance for success significantly by paying attention
to your surroundings and sensorial systems,” says Barbara
Taylor, Executive Director of Feng Shui Institute International
(FSII). “Some of
our certified practitioners would like to offer Pyramid Feng Shui
tips to enhance your New Year’s Resolutions.”
·
To reach any goal one step at a time: Select a
motivating song and commit to doing one thing each morning when
you wake up. No song is longer than 5 minutes. Whether
it's cleaning out a closet or filing papers, 5 minutes per day is
150 minutes, or almost 3 hours per month or 36 hours a year.
Think about what can be accomplished by this simple action!
(Nancilee Wydra, FSII, Florida)
·
To reduce stress:
Leave the workday stresses just outside your front door.
Create an entrance that engages your senses with fragrant
flowers, beautiful art, colors that invite and soothe and calming
music playing. (Trish Allen McCabe, FSII, Florida)
·
To improve your relationships:
Couples should be aware that the bedroom should be more Yin
- somewhat dark and quiet - to ensure not only a blissful rest,
but also a safe, loving, and honored space in which they can be
their selves. Lower light wattage, close drapes, use solid
patterns, and muted colors to help achieve a more Yin space. (Janet
Hall, FSII, Maryland)
·
To quit smoking:
Changing one's patterns of behavior within one's space is
very important - change where one sits while having that coffee,
or reading, watching television, or talking on the phone -
actually changing the furniture around will force one to change
one's perspective and experience of the space.
(Olga Biondi, FSII, New York)
·
To achieve better eating habits:
Empower your resolution for greater health by first being
specific about what that will take, more time for cooking healthy
recipes, buying organic and natural foods, working out three times
a week. Next, get rid of the excess within your kitchen cupboards,
drawers and the inside and outside of the fridge.
Then place a picture and/or quote on the fridge or a wall
in kitchen that clearly represents your chosen resolution. For
example, a quote like “True wealth is health,” and a picture
of a farm or of healthy food.
(Heather Smith, FSII, Wyoming)
·
To lose weight:
Clean out the closets and drawers. A good rule of
thumb is to only keep and wear the clothing that fits now and
makes you think "WOW I look/feel great" when you wear
it. Be realistic...if you have clothing that requires losing
25 lbs, you aren't going to want to wear the same old out-of-style
stuff when you DO lose the 25 lbs. (Molly Doogan, FSII, California)
